A first glimpse on Italian way of doing things

Updated: Oct 21, 2023

Today was a wonderful and really interactive day with the Italian students.

First, we woke up and started our day with a healthy and delicious breakfast to give us energy. Then we started to walk towards the high school to begin our activities.

The walk was about 41 minutes and full of old architectural buildings and we were amazed by them. We were also in shock because a lot of citizens wore riding their bicycles to their destination.

Then we arrived to our destination: Liceo G.M. Colombini Building- A where we met with Mrs. Cinzia, who is a wonderful person. After the introduction of two of their students, they showed us the way to the classroom. Our first activity was about prejudice and stereotypes. We were divided in different groups where we talked, with the Italian students from our groups, about the Italian stereotypes and we made a definition for prejudice.

Our second activity was about learning different phrases and words in Italy. But, while we were having a break between activities, we met a girl who is from Romania. She is very friendly and we were so happy that we were able to meet someone who speaks our language. After the break we started our activity. We were again divided in different groups. I must say this was my favorite activity of them all. Aside students teaching us Italian, we also taught them Romanian. It was funny trying to pronounce the words and the girls in the team were so nice and kind, trying to include me. After learning the words. We had a little competition against the other groups. Our group's name was LE FANTASTIC. It's a combination between Italian "le" and Romanian "fantastic". We asked them to translate some things in Romanian and then they asked us to translate some thins in Italian. Sadly, we didn't win the competition, but we won new friendships.

Our third activity was a multicultural one. We went into a class where everyone was from a different country. There was Egypt, Morocco, Albania, Macedonia, Nigeria, Philippines and also Italy. They presented us their traditional food, clothes, languages, dialects and so on. They also gave us as gifts some of their traditional food. I can't wait to taste them. Then we also presented them some of our traditions and some of our beautiful landscapes and we said our goodbyes. Then we had lunch the the school cafeteria where the food so good and went back to the hotel to refresh ourselves a bit.
